New Smyrna Beach is approximately 38 square miles in size and is located on Florida’s east coast, in the County of Volusia, just north of Cape Canaveral with easy access to both Interstate 95 and Interstate 4. The City was created in 1887 by adoption of its first charter. Population estimate for 2011 was recorded at 22,668 (as indicated by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research). The City consists of a land side and a beach side with access to the beach’s barrier island via two causeways – north and south.
New Smyrna Beach is known for its laid-back attitude and safe, wide white-sand beaches. With an eclectic mix of history, culture, the arts and nature, New Smyrna Beach (NSB) is no stranger to attention. The town is the preferred destination of many Central Floridians. Even residents of Florida have voted NSB, “Best Beach” in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 in the Orlando Sentinel’s “Best Bets” Competition. New Smyrna Beach was also recognized as one of “The World’s Top 20 Surf Towns” by National Geographic Magazine in 2012.
